John is a deeply experienced communications and business expert, with diverse experience in business and people leadership. His passion is supporting executives and teams develop to be the best they can be, in a healthy and sustainable manner.
Born in Cardiff, Wales, in the UK, John studied at The University of Reading, majoring in Psychology. A curiosity and care for people, their differences, strengths and capabilities, has been a hallmark of John’s character and a consistent thread throughtout his career and is key to his development as a highly successful business leader, executive coach and consultant.
After finishing a graduate development program at Thorn EMI, where John started his career in retail buying, market research and product management, he joined BMW. At BMW, John served as a brand manager at BMW, responsible for vehicle and after sales products, helping establish one of the most valuable brands in the world, and managing a period of exceptional growth for the company. John played a lead role in building BMW’s innovative dealer marketing consulting program, imitated in the automotive industry.
With 7 years experience managing the BMW brand, John progressed to marketing director roles at Mazda and KIA in the UK, leading brand repositioning, launching multiple new products, and managing communications, including the introduction of the first online media advertising campaign in the UK for an automotive brand, and the most cost effective media strategy in the UK.
John joined Microsoft in 2000 as General Manager for CarPoint, a joint venture with Ford and Wells Fargo, launching one of the first online advertising businesses, and creating the first profitable media and consumer services channel on the MSN network. In just one year, John’s team scaled an internet business across 14 European markets, becoming the leading online media property in it’s category.
After serving in the online services division for 3 years John was promoted to Chief Communications Officer for the Information Worker Enterprise Group, supporting all EMEA BG leads with PR/AR services and leading audience marketing strategy for one of Microsoft’s largest businesses.
John went on to manage MSN’s eCommerce partnerships and online shopping portal in EMEA, and moved to Corporate Headquarters to lead commercial search product management and launch the Bing search engine.
John has a track record of building highly successful teams, to deliver exceptional customer experiences, leading transformation and change. This includes building a global advertising business for Expedia Inc., leading digital transformation at TUI overseeing a portfolio of 14 brands, and transforming eCommerce, customer experience and digital operations at award winning Alaska Airlines.
Throughout his study and work in Psychology and Business he has cultivated a learning mindset, and continues to do so to stay abreast of business and technology changes, and to grow as a Coach.
He is a ICF certified professional coach and a graduate of the renowned Hudson Coaching Institute, now providing a combination of executive coaching, transformation consulting, facilitation, and board advisory support, for a portfolio of clients.
Based in Seattle, John supports both local technology clients and international businesses, with a passion for helping his clients build strong, healthy inclusive leaders and teams.
Outside of work, he is a keen amateur triathlete, representing Team USA and most importantly a loving husband and proud father of his son and daughter.
